Water Cabbage

The Pistia stratiotes, commonly known as Water Cabbage, Water Lettuce, or Nile Cabbage, is a floating aquatic plant known for its soft, pale green rosettes that resemble small heads of lettuce. It is widely used in ponds and water gardens for its attractive floating foliage.

• Appearance: Forms compact rosettes of thick, velvety, ribbed green leaves that float directly on the water surface, with long feathery roots hanging beneath.
• Indoor/Outdoor Use: Best suited as an outdoor aquatic plant for ponds, water gardens, fountains, and decorative water features.
• Care: Prefers warm conditions, bright light to partial sun, and still or slow-moving freshwater. It multiplies quickly through offsets.
• Benefits: Provides attractive surface cover, shade for aquatic life, and helps absorb excess nutrients from pond water.
