Vinca Vine

The Vinca major, commonly known as Vinca Vine, Greater Periwinkle, or Bigleaf Periwinkle, is an evergreen trailing perennial valued for its glossy foliage, spreading habit, and attractive violet-blue flowers. It is larger and more vigorous than Vinca minor, which we did earlier as Creeping Myrtle.

• Appearance: Produces long, trailing stems with broad glossy green leaves and violet-blue to purple flowers. Variegated forms may have green leaves edged with cream or yellow.
• Indoor/Outdoor Use: Best suited as an outdoor groundcover or trailing plant for borders, slopes, hanging baskets, containers, and shaded landscape areas.
• Care: Prefers partial shade to dappled sunlight, moist but well-draining soil, and moderate watering. It tolerates heat and some dry conditions once established.
• Benefits: Fast-growing, evergreen, excellent for covering bare ground, and useful for cascading displays and erosion control.
• Growth Note: It can spread aggressively by rooting where stems touch the ground, so regular trimming may be necessary.
