Chinese Hat Plant

The Holmskioldia sanguinea, commonly known as Chinese Hat Plant, Cup-and-Saucer Plant, or Mandarin’s Hat, is a tropical flowering shrub known for its unusual hat-shaped flower bracts and bright tubular blooms. It is native from the Himalayas to Myanmar and grows well as an ornamental shrub in warm climates.

• Appearance: Produces distinctive round, saucer-like bracts surrounding tubular flowers in shades of red, orange, or yellow. The colourful bracts remain attractive even after the flowers fall.
• Indoor/Outdoor Use: Best suited as an outdoor flowering shrub for borders, hedges, feature planting, and tropical garden areas.
• Care: Prefers full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Once established, it has some tolerance to dry conditions.
• Benefits: Colourful, distinctive, and excellent for adding unusual flower shapes and strong seasonal colour to landscaped spaces.
