Banyan Tree

The Ficus benghalensis, commonly known as Banyan Tree, Indian Banyan, or Bengal Fig, is a large evergreen tropical tree famous for its broad canopy and distinctive aerial roots. It is widely valued as a shade and landscape tree because of its impressive size, dense foliage, and dramatic spreading form.

• Appearance: Features broad, leathery green leaves and a massive spreading crown. Mature trees produce aerial roots from the branches that can reach the ground and develop into additional supporting trunks.
• Indoor/Outdoor Use: Best suited as an outdoor landscape tree in large open spaces, parks, compounds, and extensive gardens because of its strong growth and wide root system.
• Care: Prefers full sun to partial shade, fertile well-draining soil, and regular watering while young. Once established, it becomes hardy and relatively drought-tolerant.
• Benefits: Provides excellent shade, creates a strong landscape focal point, supports wildlife, and develops a distinctive architectural form as it matures.
